Hanuman, son of Lord Vayu arrived
at the magnificent palace of Ravana stood among the beautiful mansions; it was
half Yojana wide and tall. Hanuman, destroyer of enemies conducted
meticulous search in all direction for Sita who have beautiful long eyes, daughter
of King of Vidheha. Ultimately, he
entered the grand palace of Ravana, King of demons, which was protected by the
mighty demons with fierce weapons and guarded by the elephants with tusks of
two, three and four respectively. This majestic
palace was surrounded by the marvelous mansions of wives of Ravana, demons and
princesses abducted from various provinces, resembled like the vast ocean
filled with deadly aquatic animals like crocodiles, sharks, Wales, serpents etc…
This splendid palace possessed the wealth and treasures of Lord Kubera, King of
Yakshas, Lord Indra who has the celestial vehicle green horse, Lord Yama and
Lord Varuna. There was a marvelous
mansion in the middle of the grand palace consists of numerous elephants in
rut.
Hanuman observed the majestic
Pushpaka Vimanam was built by Vishwamkarma in heaven for Lord Brahma, decked
with diamonds and various precious gems, marvelous pillars, equivalent to the
sizes of Mount Meru and Mandhara, in an auspicious pattern, it has the
resemblance of Lord Soorya and Lord Agni in its splendor, with beautiful
stairways and dais made of gold, windows were made out of gold and crystal,
raised areas were made of sapphire and emerald, floors were made of corals,
pearls and precious stones, sandalwood
releasing its wonderful fragrances all over and it has ornamented upper flowers
was obtained by Lord Kubera after undergoing
severe austerities and devotion, later it was forcefully taken away by Ravana
with his prowess from Lord Kubera.
Hanuman sensed the aroma of sumptuous
meal and diverse drinks from various directions. Hanuman entered the auspicious hall with high
ceiling which was embedded with stairways made of diamonds, window made of gold,
floors were decorated with the crystals and decked with the marvelous idols
made of ivory, and the pillars were ornamented with pearls, diamonds, corals,
silver and gold, large beautiful carpet with the marvelous portraits of river,
mountain, ocean, woods on it resembled like the entire Earth was brought in and
it was located close to Ravana’s chamber.
This splendid hall pleasing to heart, capable to destroy the sorrows was
revealing perpetual prosperity and pleasing to five sensory organs was
inhibited by the King of demons, echoed the chirping of birds, full of flowers
of alluring and excellent aroma, decked with tapestries, marvelously decorated
with flowers resembled like finest swan and divine cow. Hanuman after observing the stunning beauty
of palace exclaimed “ It must be the
heaven ! The abode of deities! It must
be the city of Lord Indra obtained after severe austerities! The entire palace is revealing its splendor
in the brilliance of lamps, jewels and Ravana as well. ” Hanuman witnessed thousands of gorgeous
women in their best attires sitting and eventually went to sleep late in the night
after long hours of play and intoxication caused by the drinks. The group of
women sleeping in the magnificent hall was in their best garments and ornaments,
desirable, like cluster of lotuses, swans and bees, releasing alluring
fragrances shone as glittering stars in the autumn sky. These beautiful women with luster, attractive
complexion and grace were surrounded the King of demons resembled like Lord Chandra
in the midst of cluster of stars, like the meteoroids in the sky. These lovely women had tousled garlands, scattered
jewels on their bodies due to excessive consumption of intoxicated drinks and
dancing, eventually fallen into deep sleep.
Some of the women had their auspicious mark on their forehead was spread
unevenly, misplaced jewels on their chest made of various precious gems and
pearls, earrings, anklets and garlands resembled like swans, Kadambas, Karandas
and Chakravaha birds. These attractive women,
highly devoted to Ravana were in deep sleep with their misplaced clothes, exhaling
the fragrance of the intoxicated drink Sarkara, tangled on each other’s
shoulder, bosom, and thighs like a flower garland. In the brilliance of golden lamps, Hanuman
could witness Ravana comfortably sleeping was surrounded by the young maidens
of sages, Brahmins, demons, Gandharvas, Rakshasas. These beautiful young maidens were brought by
Ravana either triumph on the battle or stolen or by the torture of the cupid
arrow of Lord Manmatha or by their virtue or from the glorious lineage or by
their loveliness or by their intelligence or by their skill or by their
dedication and devotion or desirable nature,
but there was only one woman Sita, daughter of Janaka made it impossible
for most powerful Ravana. Suddenly a
strange thought crossed the mind of pious Hanuman that it would have been good
for Ravana if the chaste wife of Raghava, Sita remained happy like any other
young maidens in the palace of the demon King. Shortly, Hanuman became gloomy at his
thought, Sita is highly virtuous, although Lord of Lanka was powerful, and he committed
an impious deed to her.
