Hanuman,
son of Lord Vayu/Maruthathmaja, stood high on the peak of Mount Lamba which was
close to the clouds, gathered his courage and entered in the beautiful city of
Lanka ruled by Ravana that has magnificent pleasure gardens, streams and
ponds. The city shone with its marvelous
mansions guarded by mighty armies of Vitapavati, capital of Lord Kubera. The beautiful royal paths and archways were
guarded by elephants. Hanuman entered
the city of Lanka through the striking pathways which was bright in the light
of stars and served with cool breeze, which was protected by the venomous
serpents like the propitious city Bhogavati.
There was a huge golden wall like in the city of Amaravati, that was decorated with flags and bells,
Hanuman enthusiastically dived over the wall.
Hanuman was mesmerized at the beauty of the city and its marvelous
doors, magnificent floors, beautiful stairs, walls and assembly halls were
decked with gold, diamonds, pearl, crystals and precious stones. The melodious voices of Kroucha birds,
peacocks, swans and the reverberations of the auspicious sounds of musical
instruments resembled the city of Vasvokasara.
After witnessing the magnificent city well protected and flourished with
wealth, beauty and auspiciousness, Hanuman thought it will be difficult to
conquer this city with strength alone and it would be possible only for the
great warriors like Kumudha, Angadha, Sushena, Maindha or Dvivida. The access to this city is possible for
Sugriva/son of Lord Surya, Kushaparvana, Riksha and me, he was heartily happy
to remember the valor of Rama and Lakshmana as well. Hanuman observed the city of demons attired
in grand garments decorated with diamonds and precious jewels and the lighting
in the grand mansions were capable to remove the entire darkness in the
houses. Lankini, the guardian of city of
the Lanka ruled by Ravana, witnessed
Hanuman entering into the city, instantly she appeared before Hanuman in her dreadful form and spoke in a unruly voice
“Oh! Vanalaya, Oh! Vanara, who are you? Why did you come here? You are not
allowed to enter the city well guarded and protected by Ravana.” Hanuman
replied “Oh! Dharuna, I will respond to your question truthfully, who you are
standing at the entrance of the gate with horrible appearance? Why are you threatening
me and blocking my way?” after listening to the words of Hanuman, Lankini who
has the ability to disguise in any form answered annoyingly “Oh! Vanara, I
protect this city of the King of demon, in an invisible form and wait for the
orders of the King. I protect this city
from all directions, It is impossible to enter into the city after humiliating
me; otherwise you will end up in permanent sleep.” After listening to the
arrogant speech of Lankini, Hanuman stood before her like a mountain and spoke “ I
would like to see the grand city of Lanka and its palaces, walls and archways
etc…I also would like to visit the pleasure gardens, woods and houses etc…” Lanikini
got irritated at the words of Hanuman and replied “Oh! Vanara, unwise monkey,
it is impossible to enter into this city of Ravana without winning over me.”
Hanuman said “Oh! Nishachari, I will return to my place after seeing these
beautiful places.” Lankini irritatingly
let out a loud voice and hit Hanuman, who was already controlling anger
thinking of not to hurt a woman. It
infuriated him; he folded the left hand palm and thrashed her. Lankini fell on the ground with a loud noise
with her horrific form, she politely answered “Oh! Mahabala, Vanara Oh! Blessed
one, protect me. I myself represent the
city of Lanka and you have defeated me with your prowess. Oh! Harishwara, I had
a boon from Lord Brahma, I will narrate to you. The boon was whenever a Vanara defeat me with
his might that would be the ruin of the clan of demons, annihilation of demons
and the evil minded King Ravana is definite due to Sita. Oh! Harishreshta, you can enter in to the
city of Lanka ruled by Ravana and perform the task which you are desired. The
auspicious city of Lanka is inflicted with curse now onwards; you can conduct
the search for Sita as you wish.”
