Shathananda continued “The mighty Kshathriya Sage Vishwamithra released
powerful Agneya Asthram against the revered Sage Vashishta, who raised his
Brahma Dhandam which has the power of Kala Dhandam, and spoke “Oh!
Kshathrabandho, Vishwamithra, son of Gadhi, You may display your prowess to me
and I will destroy your pride and the power of your weapon as well. Oh! Kshthriya, you have opposed the Brahma
Balam/ power of asceticism against the Kshthriya Balam/mightiness of a
Kshthriya, and you will experience the power of the supreme asceticism.” Sage Vashishta with the Brahma Dhandam,
defused all those dreadful weapons of Sage Vishwamithra like deluge on the rage
of blazing fire. Gadhinandan/ Sage
Vishwamithra aimlessly released various powerful weapons of Varuna, Rudra,
Indra and Pasupathasthram, Aishikasthram/instigated from the sacred grass,
Manavasthram, Mohanasthram, Gandharvasthram, Swapanasthram, Jumbranasthram,
Madhanasthram, Santhapanasthram, Vilapanasthram, Shoshanam, Dharanam,
Vajrasthram, Brahmapasham, Kalapasham,Varunapasham, Pinakinasthram, weapons of
Gandharvas such as Shushkam, Ardhram,
Ashani, Dhandasthram, Paishachasthram, Dharma Chakram, Kala Chakram, Vishnu
Chakram, Vayavyasthram, Hayashirasthram, Shakthidhvayasthram, Kankalasthram,
Musalasthram, Vaidhayadharasthram, Kalasthram etc… Oh! Raghunandana, Sage Vishwamithra continued pouring of various
dreadful weapons against Sage Vashishta and further Sage Vishwamithra released
Thrishulasthram, Kapalasthram and
Kankanasthram. Oh! Rama, Sage
Vashishta mysteriously silenced all those dreadful weapons with his Brahma
Dhandam and calmed the son of Gadhi, but Sage Vishwamithra prepared to set off
the fatal weapon Brahmasthra while the deities, Lord Agni, Devarishis,
Gandharvas, Maha Uragas, were in state
of havoc. Oh! Raghava, the deadliest
weapon Brahmasthra was surprisingly defused by the Brahma Dhandam of Sage
Vashishta, as a result the appearance of virtuous Sage Vashishta was turned
extremely appalling, his bodily hairs had the resemblance of blaze while the
ferocious weapon was about to engulf the world.
The Brahma Dhandam of Sage Vashishta was radiant like Kalagni and weapon
of Lord Yama. The Sages assembled were
eulogized the virtuous Sage Vashishta and spoke “ Oh! Brahman, you are
unconquerable and your prowess is commendable to absorb the incineration of the
powerful weapons, though the great ascetic Sage Vishwamithra realized your
absolute power which put the entire universe in extreme anguish, therefore Oh!
Brahman, we earnestly pray to free the world from the extreme distress.” Sage Vashishta regained his serenity after
listening to the plea of the sages assembled.
Sage Vishwamithra spoke “Brahma Balam is superior to Kshthriya Balam,
all my weapons were defused with the Brahma Dhandam. Therefore, with all my heart and senses I
will pursue the supreme asceticism which is the pre-requisites for Brahmathvam.
”
