Shathanandha continued “The hundred sons of Sage Vashishta were fuming after
listening to King Thrishanku and spoke “ Oh! Dhurbuddhe/unwise King, how could
you approach us, who are the branches of the tree of wisdom/Sage Vaishsta, when
the very tree has already rejected your plea?
The royal priest is the ultimate source of all ritual for the clan of
Ikshvaku, how could you overlook the predictions of the virtuous royal priest
who has already declared that it’s impossible to conduct such a Vedic
ritual? Then, how it would be possible
for us? Oh! Narashreshta, it is your
childish act, therefore get back to your Kingdom, godly Sage Vashishta is only
capable to perform any Vedic ritual in the all three worlds, how can we cause
disrespect to his fame?” King Thrishanku
was infuriated by the words of hundred sons of Sage Vashishta, he replied “ I
have been rejected by godly sage Vashishta and his hundred sons who are
prominent scholars, I have no other choice left before me other than to find
somebody else.” The hundred sons of Sage
Vashishta was highly exasperated when they listened to the unusual sentence of
King Thrishanku, which could cause extreme chaos, they cursed him to become
a Chandala/profaner and returned to
their hermitage. King Thrishanku assumed
the form of a Profaner due to the curse; he was attired in blue garments, dark
– skinned, unevenly hair decked with wreath and various iron ornaments. Oh! Rama, The ministers and the people of
King Thrishanku’s Kingdom were refused to accept him and got into fight with
him; shortly he approached ascetically rich Sage Vaishmithra, felt empathy
towards the King Thrishanku who turned into a profaner and enquired his purpose
of visit. King Thrishanku spoke with
folded hands “I have been rejected by Sage Vashishta and his hundred sons, my
aspiration turned out fruitless and it caused unconstructive impact on me. I had the desire to attain heavenly abode
with my mortal body, I have performed hundreds of ritual but everything turned
out unrewarding. I pledge upon my
Kshthriya-hood, I have not uttered any lies and I will not do that in future
too. I have performed various Yagnas, I
have been ruling my Kingdom wisely for the welfare of the people, I have
pleased my Preceptors and virtuous souls with my righteous conduct. Oh!
Maharishey, I would like to conduct a Vedic ritual to avail its reward, but my
preceptors are not willing to carry out the same and discouraged me, I believe
manly efforts are regardless and destiny is the ultimate source of all. I am in a pathetic state, disfigured by my
fate, and I have no shelter, therefore I request you to counter attack my
destiny.”
