Sage Vishwamithra continued
“ Diti was inconsolable at the death of
sons in the battle rose between Dhaithyas and Dhanavas during churning milky
ocean, she expressed her extreme anguish to her husband Sage Kashyapa, son of
Sage Mareecha. Diti spoke to Sage
Kashyapa “Oh! Bhagavan, I am utterly bereaved on the death of our valorous
sons, killed by the sons of Aditi. I
wish to conceive a child who born out immense power of asceticism and penance
shall be the annihilator of Indra. In
order to obtain a mighty son who is capable to become the ruler of the
Universe, I wish to undergo severe austerities and request your appropriate
guidance to conceive the child. ” after listening to the plea of Diti, Sage
Kashyapa replied “Oh! Diti, who is truly ascetic, shall carry out the practices
of asceticism; shortly you will conceive a child who will be the destroyer of
Indra. If you complete the strict
austerities for thousand years, you will be blessed with a child as you
desired.” Sage Kashyapa touched her
compassionately and purified Diti, eventually sage Kashyapa left for the
practice of austerities. Diti recovered
herself from grief and proceed to a sacrosanct place Kushalaplavam located in
the City of Vishala and continued severe austerities. Oh! Rama, while Diti was undertaking severe
penance, the thousand eyed Lord Indra offered abundance of service to his
maternal aunt. Lord Indra provided the
required items like fire wood, water, sacred grass, fruits and vegetables etc…
to her during the practice of asceticism.
Further Lord Indra relieved her physical fatigue due to the severe
austerities by providing personal assistances.
Oh! Raghunandana, there was ten more months left in order to complete
the austerities for thousands of years, Diti rejoiced over her accomplishment
and delightfully spoke to Lord Indra “
Oh! Valiant one, Indra you will see your little brother in ten years as soon as
I complete the strict austerities. Oh! Son,
he will be extremely enthusiastic and victorious, you can conquer the three
worlds with him and live merrily without the fear from the enemies. Your father Sage Kashyapa has provided a boon,
that I will have your little brother after the completion of strict austerities
for thousand years.” After saying so, it was midday Diti gradually fallen
asleep keeping her head on the inauspicious direction which made her impious,
Indra realized the fact and laughed at her inability to complete the
austerities. Soon, Lord Indra, destroyer
of enemies entered the fetus of Diti and divided the unborn into seven
fragments, while slicing the fetus with the powerful weapon caused extreme twinge
made Diti rose from sleep. Lord Indra
instructed the fetus to remain quiet and disappeared from her womb. Lord Indra stood before Diti with his hands
folded and spoke reverentially “Oh! Devi, you have become irreverent by falling
asleep on the wrong direction, in this way your vow has turned fruitless. Therefore I have taken the opportunity to
eliminate your fetus that is capable to annihilate Indra in a battle,
eventually I have sliced the fetus into seven particles and it was indeed a pardonable
deed of mine.”
