Rama and Lakshmana were listening
to the great epic of the origin of river Ganga on Earth with great admiration,
replied “Oh! Illustrious Brahmin, after listening to the elaborate description
of remarkable legend of Ganga Avatharanam and King Sagara, I was recollecting
the entire episode with Soumithrina after the description of the glorious myth
and the whole night was passed like a moment.”
Rama approached the sage on the next day early hours of dawn while Sage
Vishwamithra who has the radiance of asceticism was performing the daily ritual
and spoke “ Oh! Brahmin, we have listened to the meritorious myth of descend of
river Ganga, we shall cross the auspicious river in a ferry which was already
arranged by the pious at your arrival, and the ferry is well decked with
comfortable mat for all those sages assembled.”
Sage Vishwamithra of Kusha dynasty prepared to leave with all those
sages gathered in the ferry, eventually arrived on the northern bank of river
Ganga. The sages travelled with them
were honored and bade fare well to Sage Vishwamithra. After halting for a few moments on the river
bank, Sage Vishwamithra proceeded with Rama and Lakshman to the prestigious City
of Vishala which has the resemblance of heaven.
Rama who is highly inquisitive in
acquiring knowledge, joined his palm together and enquired the Sage
Vishwamithra about the rulers of the great city of Vishala. Sage
Vishwamithra began to speak about the glorious dynasty of Vishala “ Oh!
Raghava, I will narrate you the legend of Vishala described by Lord Indra. In Kritha Yuga the children of Diti where
highly energetic, on the other hand Aditi, the younger sister of Diti’s son
where highly righteous were strived hard to remain young without illness and
death. At that moment, a vivid thought
rose in the mind of highly intellectuals to obtain elixir of nectar of
immortality by churning the milky ocean.
The highly enthusiastic children of Diti and Aditi began to churn the
milky ocean with the great serpent Vasuki with the thousand hoods as churning
rope and Mount Mandhara as the center object.
The process continued for thousands of years, in the mean time the
thousand hooded Vasuki started to phew, eventually the venomous poison due to
the friction gushed out. The Halahala
poison which was capable to burn down the entire Universe and the world of
deities, human and its creatures. All
the deities approached Lord Mahadeva, Shankara who is the provider of solace,
Pasupathi the protector of living creatures and surrendered to him. While the deities earnestly praying to the
Lord of Lords, there appeared Lord Vishnu with disc and conch. Lord Vishnu smilingly spoke to Lord Shankara
who is foremost among the deities “Oh! Surashreshta, foremost among the Lord,
Oh! Omnipresent Lord Shankara, Oh! Venerable Lord all that in the milky ocean belongs
to you and you may consume the Halahala too.” Saying so Lord Vishnu disappeared
from the sight. Lord Shiva gracefully consumed the Halahala
poison like the elixir of nectar, after witnessing the pathetic situation of
the deities and as a respect to the words of Lord Vishnu/Shargina. Lord of Lords left to his abode mount
Kailash, the deities and demons continued churning the milky ocean. Shortly the Mount Mandhara which was used as
the center object began to depart to the netherworld, the deities and
Gandharvas earnestly prayed for elevating the Mount Mandhara to Lord
Madhusoodhana who is the protector of all beings in the Universe and heavenly
abodes as well. Lord Rishikesha, who has
the perfect control over senses after listening to the prayers of the deities,
assumed the form of a huge tortoise and remained at the bottom of the milky
ocean carrying mount Mandhara on his back.
The churning process has continued for thousand years, ultimately the
Lord of Ayurvedha, virtuous soul Lord Dhanvanthari appeared with a vessel,
along with the celestial Apsaras from the milky ocean. In this way, six hundred and millions of
amazing damsels emerged from the milky ocean with innumerable maidservants were
appointed for the service of deities.
Then, Varuni the highly intoxicated drink of priceless nature, daughter
of Varuna was appeared, distributed among the Suras, the sons of Aditi. Shortly the celestial horse Ucchaisravass,
matchless jewel Kausthubha and finally the elixir of nectar also emerged from
the milky ocean. A huge commotion was
rose between the sons of Diti and Aditi, eventually a fierce battle was broke
out for the elixir of nectar. Soon Lord
Vishnu assumed the form of Mohini and got the possession of ambrosia, in the
vicious battle between the sons of Aditi and Diti, many of the demons were
massacred. Ultimately, the King of
Lords, Lord Indra happily ruled the heaven with the Sages and Charanas.” Thus,
Sage Vishwamithra concluded the emergence of the splendid city of Vishala.
