Dear Devotees,
The remarkable Ashtabandhana Maha Kumbhabhishekam of glorious Lord Veleeswarathappan Shiva Temple was performed in the year 2001 and followed by Prathishta Day functions each year till 2013 with the kind co-operation and immense support extended by the devotees.
Veleeswarathappan Shiva Temple is situated at West Peruvemba, about 7kms from Palakkad Town is a grand old temple and has emerald green imbibed Marathaka Linga was consecrated by Sage Parasurama.  Apart from the main deity, there are sub shrines for Lord Ganesha, Goddess Sri Parvathi, Lord Subramanya with his consorts Goddesses Sri Valli & Deivayanai, Lord Ayyappa and serpent Gods within the temple precinct.  In olden days the daily rituals were performed by the Namboodiris strictly according to the rules prescribed in the Vedas.   This temple was under the administration of Ruler of Malabar Samudhiri.   Over the years, due to the difficulties in maintaining the temple was handed over to a few Brahmin families with the instruction to carry out the daily rituals.  This temple was well taken care by the Brahmin families and conducted rituals like Pradosham, Thiruvathira, Mahashivarathri and Annual Prathista Day etc….

However, due to the Land Reform Act enacted by the Kerala Governemnt, the major income from the agricultural land owned by the temple has become unrewarding and the land was taken over by the tillers.  Therefore, the only revenue available to the temple to conduct its daily rituals and maintenance is from hundi collection and donations from the devotees.
As per the Agama Sasatras, Kumbabishekam of the temples has to be performed once in 12 years to preserve its sanctity.  The time has arrived for the temple renovation, consecration of deities and installation of Kodimaram and deities with elaborate Yagna and Vedic rituals on an auspicious day.  This propitious event is going to be held under the guidance and supervision of Andaladimana Brahmashri Shri Parameshwaran (Kunchan) Namboodiri.  It was found from the Ashtamangalya Prasnam that it’s essential to conduct certain Parihara Puja, complete renovation of temple, replacement of Kodimaram and cleaning of Temple Pond as well.   The estimated cost of Jeernodharana Kumbabhishekam would be around Rs. 50 to 60 lakhs.  Therefore, we request all the devotees to take up the opportunity to render service to Lord Veleeswarathappan.

We pray to Lord Veleeswarathappan & Goddess Sri Parvathi to bless all the devotees and their families with Good Health, Happiness, Prosperity and success in their life.

Maharishi Vishwamithra continued “ The illustrious Lord Brahma narrated after listening to the deities that the living creatures who are bewildered at the might of the sons of Emperor Sagara is belongs to the Mother of Earth who is the clairvoyant of Vasudeva, consort of Madhava was propelled from the ocean.  Therefore, Lord Vishnu will assume the form of Sage Kapila and the furious Sage will burn down all the sons of Emperor Sagara into ashes.  The complete destruction of Earth as well as the sons of Sagara will take place as prophesied by the ancient people. All the thirty three deities were returned to their abodes peacefully after listening to the reassuring words of Lord Brahma.  There were deafening noises like thunder bolt was evident while ripping off the Earth by the sons of Sagara, they hollowed the Earth and marched through it in search of the ritual horse, did not find any trace of the horse, ultimately returned to their father.  The princes of Sagara informed their father about the entire happenings on the Earth and its living creatures, like deities, demons, Rakshas, Paishacha, Uraga, Pannaga were ruined but the ritual horse was not found and sought his advice to carry out further proceedings.  The most infuriated Emperor Sagara ordered his sons to continue the process of excavation with all safety measures and return after accomplishing the task with the ritual horse.  The sixty thousand sons of Emperor Sagara hurried to Rasathala and netherworld after receiving the command from their father.  The digging process continued, there appeared a elephant Virupaksha has the resemblance of the mountain, carrying eastern side of the earth with mountains and woods, when it move its head due to fatigue or at intervals will results earth quake.  Oh! Rama, they circumambulated the elephant Virupaksha which is the protector of eastern regions with utmost reverence and proceeded to netherworld by splintering the Earth and moved on to southern regions, there found the elephant Mahapadma similar to a huge mountain carrying the entire part of the south on its head, they circumambulated the elephant Mahapadma and moved towards westwards scraping the Earth.  There too they had witnessed a huge elephant Sumanasa which is the protector of western regions; they circumambulated with reverence and moved on to northern direction.  Oh! Rama, in the northern region they found a snow-white elephant Bhadra with an auspicious marks on its body, they reverentially circumambulated Bhadra and started to burrow the surface of the Earth.  They moved to the auspicious Eashana Dhigbhaga/northeast direction and continued scraping the Earth stridently.  Oh! Rama, the virtuous sons of Sagara envisioned Vasudeva who was assumed the form of Sage Kapila in the northeast and also witnessed the ritual horse; it brought immense delight in them.  They were in extreme wrath approached Sage Kapila with all those fierce weapons and mistreating him as the thief of ritual horse.  Oh! Raghunandhan, Sage Kapila who has the divine power of Lord Vishnu furiously released a ‘hum’ sound, instantly all the sons of Emperor Sagara turned into a heap of ashes.”

Raghunandhan/Rama pleasingly listened to the narration of Sage Vishamithra whose face has the resemblance of Agni, Rama spoke “ Oh! Brahman, I would like to hear elaborately about the legend of my ancestor emperor Sagara and how did he complete the Vedic ritual.”  After listening to the inquisitiveness of Rama, Sage Vishwamithra began with a smile “ Oh! Rama let me enlighten you about the myth of emperor Sagara precisely.   Mount Himavan, Father-in-law of Lord Shankara and the Mount Vindhya, these two mountains situated at a place gazing at each other proudly, this sacred area between the two mountains is famous for Vedic ritual and Emperor Sagara’s Vedic ritual happened to take place on this area.  Amshuman, grandson of Emperor Sagara and the son of Asamanja was a great Charioteer with an exceptional knowledge in the usage of bow and arrow, followed the ritual horse and ultimately released.  It was on the auspicious hours; Lord Indra assumed the form of a demon and taken away the ritual horse which is significant for the performance of ritual of Sagara.  The congregations of Upadhyayas were duly informed about the incident to righteous Emperor Sagara and advised him to get back the ritual horse after killing the perpetrator who had stolen the ritual horse.  The obstacle to the Vedic ritual will be inauspicious to all, so advised him to take immediate action to conduct the ritual without any fail.  Emperor Sagara commanded his sixty thousands sons, who are holy sanctifiers to conduct a safe and rigorous search for the ritual horse and for the offender on the whole of Earth, after listening to the Upadhyayas.  Further, each prince should conduct their search by excavating one Yojana of the Earth, until they locate the ritual horse and the culprit.  Emperor Sagara who has already undertaken the vow of ritual had to halt on the place of ritual with his grandson Amshuman and Upadhyayas.  Sixty thousand sons of Emperor Sagara enthusiastically proceeded for the search, they conducted meticulous search on the Earth and excavation process has begun, Earth was hollow out by each prince at the length of one Yojana with their arms that has the power of diamond, but did not find the ritual horse.  Mother Earth was deeply distressed while she was ripping apart by the spears similar to thunderbolt; it created huge commotion in the living creatures beneath the Earth and killed many serpents, demons and living creatures while the excavation took place.  In this way, sixty thousand Yojana of the Earth was emptied including the outer most plane of Earth known as Rasathala and nether land too; they hollowed out the entire part of Jambudhvipa that was crammed with the mountains.  All the deities, Gandharvas, Pannagas/serpents and demons were extremely concerned about the plight of the situation of Mother Earth were approached Lord Brahma, earnestly appealed to Lord Brahma that the entire Earth was hollowed up by the sons of Sagara, therefore many of the living creatures were killed and tortured, they suspects every creatures as the perpetrator, responsible for the cause of obstruction of ritual and missing of ritual horse.”   In this way Sage Vishwamithra concluded his speech to Rama and others.
